Education and the Ropes Course
"A ropes course is a great facility for learning"
School groups can develop the following themes
- Team-building needs
- Communication issues
- Creative problem solving
- Risk-taking strategies
To individuals the benefit of being involved with an Educational Rope Course
occur on a number of different levels. Extensive research findings recognise the
following:

Ropes Course Requirements
Participants must
- wear suitable shoes-sports shoes ( no platforms, thongs or sandals)
- tie up long hair
- wear suitable clothing ( no loose clothes or jewellery)
Group sizes per instructor:
- Initiative Course - A maximum of 12 participants per group
- High Ropes Course - A maximum of 12 participants per group
- Low Ropes Course - A maximum of 12 participants per group
- Kayaking - A maximum of 10 participants per group
Supervisors
- High ropes - 2 LTCCT staff required
- Low ropes - 1 LTCCT staff required
- Initiatives - Prefer 1 LTCCT staff but if using own supervisor the
following must apply:
- Hold a current first aid certificate
- Risk management sheets must be studied
- Have undergone training by LTCC staff on use of the course
(To be chaged $35 per hour of instruction)
- Initiatives - camp staff supervisor @ $35 per hour (if used)
- Low Ropes Course $3.00 per person plus camp staff supervisor @ $35 per
hour per supervisor
- High Ropes Course $5.00 per person plus camp staff supervisors @ $35 per
hour per supervisor
- High & Low Ropes Course $7.00 per person plus staff supervisors @ $35
per hour per supervisor
Safety
LTCCT has developed strict codes of practices for the operation of the ropes
course & onsite activities.
If you require copies of the Risk and Accident Management sheets please contact the office or click here to download them from our downloads page.
All our operators are professionally trained to site specific NZ standards.
As required by the Health and Safety in Employment Act, LTCCT has:
- Identified, eliminated and minimised all known hazards.
- Documented all known maintenance requirements and inspection checks
- Scheduled annual safety inspections by an external agent
- Developed emergency procedures in case of an accident
- LTCCT keeps a record of all known accidents and incidents.
